A random click at a crucial time can really throw off the listener.  These can come from the mouth with lips smacking or they can be caused by an error in the recording process.  Let's focus on the latter part of that equation.

Use of a proper buffer size, as well as fades and crossfades on your clips will help prevent some unwanted clicks.  Let's first look at buffer size and leave fades for the end when we are finished recording and prepare for mixing.
